"What an amazing experience with a terrific location and true Turkish hospitality"
- This was my second trip to Istanbul, but the first trip for my wife. We really enjoyed Easter weekend in Istanbul. Everything went really well. Because of our late flight, we only checked in at about 2am. Unfortunately, there is road construction on the small street / alley leading to the hotel, so we had to walk a bit in the mud to get to the hotel. However, once we arrived, Hassan at the front desk was very cordial and was quick about getting us settled in as quickly as possible. He offered Turkish Apple Tea (which is now my wife's favorite!). Since we wanted to hit the ground running in the morning, he immediately booked a walking tour of the Old City with a small group that showed the highlights of most of what we wanted to see. Our "Triple Room" was a bit on the small side, but totally expected in the middle of the Sultanahmet district. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable with nice linens. The bathroom was clean with a small standup shower. The towels were nice size, but could have been a bit thicker. I don't think the room was air-conditioned (but because of the weather, we didn't need it. The soundproofing could be better as we could hear other guests in the hallway and the adjacent room. Regardless, we slept well. In the morning, we were cheerfully greeted by Sesgin (spelling?) who prepared special pancakes with "Welcome" written in chocolate on the plate. The breakfast area on the rooftop was a bit small and when we arrived, there was no room indoors. However, my wife and I decided to eat outside on the rooftop terrace (although a bit chilly) and were treated by a view that is unmatched in the area! All I can say is WOW! The selections were typical European Continental --- with assorted coffee, juices, breads, cold cuts, traditional Turkish breakfast, etc. We enjoyed the pancakes and a nice mixed omelette. We enjoyed a full day touring and were greeted by Gem (spelling?) at the front desk who helped us with other suggestions on eating areas and additional tours for the following day. The next day Chamsadin (spelling?) helped us in booking our transfer at a reasonable price to the airport. Sesgin (spelling?) gave my wife "Goodbye" pancakes, and helped carry our luggage to the private taxi around the corner from the hotel.Overall, one cannot beat the location --- especially if you want to tour the Old City by foot. We were literally walking distance to some of the most important attractions in the Sultanahmet district (Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Hippodrome, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace, and the Grand Bazaar). The restaurant choices in the area also cannot be beat! So many wonderful ones to choose from! The staff was incredibly gracious and truly exhibited exceptional Turkish hospitality.
