For international visitors, the main access points to the Philippines are the international airports in Manila and Cebu. From Manila there are several daily flights to Tacloban airport from where we can arrange private air-conditioned transport to bring you directly to Padre Burgos Castle, with a transit time of around 3 hours.
There is currently 1 daily flight from Cebu to Tacloban, and numerous ferries from Cebu to the sea ports of Maasin, Bato, Hilongos or Ormoc on the west coast of Leyte. Maasin is about 30 minutes from Padre Burgos, Bato about twice that distance and Hilongos a little further. The journey from Ormoc, which is served by several high speed ferries from Cebu, takes about 3 hours. We can arrange to meet you at Cebu airport, purchase ferry tickets and transport you to the next ferry to Leyte. Private air-conditioned transport can bring you to the Castle from your port of arrival or you can try travelling by jeepney or multicab with the locals.
There are daily passenger and car-ferries from Ubay, on the east coast of Bohol, to Maasin, Bato and Hilongos and a daily passenger service from Surigao to Liloan on the oppsoite side of Sogod Bay, about 2 hours by road from Padre Burgos.
It is also possible to travel by your own or hired car over the spectacular San Juanico bridge from Samar or on a car-ferry from other parts of the Philippines.
Internal flights and ferries within the Philippines are extremely cheap. We have up-to-date information on all of them and will happily advise you on the best travel arrangements.
