Borboleta no Monte is a stylish guesthouse with rooms that have big windows and a balcony that offers you a beautiful view over the hills of Caldelas. Breakfast is served in our trendy breakfast/living room which also offers you a gourgious view over the hills. Three nights a week you can have dinner at our place.

Our guesthouse is centrally located and therefor is perfectly suited to discover the North of Portugal. The National Parque Gerês, Oporto - a city with lots of history, architecture and the famous port-wine houses, Ponte de Lima, Guimaraes, Ponte de Barca, Barcelos - the biggest weekly market in Portugal and Braga. Cities, without doubt worth visiting, assuring a good time. Also the beach, i.e. Eposende is relatively close to our place. Walks in the mountains, sightseeing in the cities, laying on the beach or relaxing at our place enjoying the nice view and peaceful environment. We advise you to rent a car during your stay. Due to the yet still quiet highways everything is pretty close with a maximum traveling time of one hour (Oporto).

For the lovers of sport there is the possibility to paragliding and to kayak in the river that flows in front of our guesthouse in which you can also swim. A public swimming pool is nearby just as the Spa in Caldelas. A little bit further away you can golf (Ponte de Lima) and in the National Parque Gerês you can ride a horse. For advise on hiking routes, opening hours or other information you can always come to us.

From Porto Airport you go to Braga. Then you go to Vila Verde. In Vila Verde you find a Gas station Esso on a round a bout. Take the road right from it and follow the signs of restaurant 'Torres'. Keep following this sign until you see a graveyard on your right and a bit more further down the road you see a church. Take the road to the right immediately after the graveyard. There is a sign with the street name “lugar de Germel”. After you took the road to the right follow the road all the way down until you see 'MOTA' a garage for cars. Then take the first road to your left and the next road to the right....keep following this road until you cannot drive any further because it is a dead street ending at a house.... You've arrived.

Cities & Curiosities
The North of Portugal has a rich history and a couple of cities are even on the Unesco world heritage list. Portugal has been all over the world and the world has been to Portugal, you will see. Although a lot might go back to the roman empire, the arabs and kelts have been here too. If you like history or architecture you will not be bored quickly. For lovers of wine this is an excellent area. Besides the famous portwines you'll find delicious young wines which will be a treat for your gustatory papillae.

Barcelos
The place where the colourful cock, the symbol of portugal, originates. The story is about a man who, before he got hanged, made a dead cock crow as he prospected and thus obtained his freedom back.

Braga
The university city of the north and ofcourse the Bom Jesus, pelgrimage church of Braga with a huge Barock staircase.

Chaves
Combine a healthy and relaxing time in the Therms with a walk in the national parque 'Montesinho'. A great addition to your holidayplans.

Guimaráes
The castle and chapel of Santa Miguel is a good way to start your daytrip in Guimaráes. Continue your trip to the medieval palace of Count of Bragança and the church of Santos Passos and have a look at the Santiago square. A lovely city to visit.

Porto
The city of port wines, architecture and rich history. Porto is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. You'll find the Dom Luis bridge, the 'meseu do vinho do Porto', the river Douro, the casa da música (Rem Koolhaas) and a lot of steep roads. Good shoes are a must if you plan on going by foot. You can also take a tourbus or a dayticket for public transport to guide you through all curiosities.

This city is included in the route to Santiago.
