The pearl of dorset, lyme regis is a beautiful place, we like to think that our bed and breakfast offers the perfect location for a break to enjoy what lyme and it’s surrounding area has to offer: near enough to get to town easily but far enough to escape from the hustle and bustle of life in the town

we have tried to create the sort of place that we would like to stay in, rather that the archetypal image of a bed and breakfast, and are delighted to welcome guests into our home.

Set in 2.5 acres of garden in a tranquil location on the borders of dorset and east devon (a designated area of natural beauty) the architect designed house has an open aspect across fields to the sea at lyme regis less than a mile away. The house itself has undergone extensive refurbishment to create luxurious accommodation for guests looking for a relaxing break, which we hope will leave them refreshed and de stressed
Five individually designed and furnished bedrooms, four with stunning sea views and one with views of the garden, all have supremely comfy beds, tv, dvd and i pod dock, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities, four have direct access to a balcony or terrace.

the dorset and east devon coast now known as the jurassic coast is newly designated as a UNESCO world heritage environmental site
there are countless secluded haunts and walks away from crowds; views from the cliff tops along the coastal paths are breathtaking, the surrounding hills and vales provide many stunning walks, including the famous 'undercliff' one of the first of britain's national nature reserves and ‘golden cap’ the highest point on the south coast
here you will find woodland strewn with bluebells in spring and all kinds of flora throughout the year
such a varied landscape means that it’s rich in wildlife too, providing a haven for badgers, rabbits, hares, foxes, deer, squirrels, buzzards, falcons and much more

the town is steeped in history and has literary connections with thomas hardy, jane austen and of course john fowles, who can forget the haunting image of meryl streep on the windswept cobb as the eponymous heroine of his novel the french lieutenant's woman
famous for the cobb - the long, serpentine breakwater described by the writer john fowles as "…simply the most beautiful sea rampart on the south coast of england…redolent of seven hundred years of English history…"

the sea has, of course, been central to the community’s development; its roots stretch back to the 8th century when monks distilled salt from the sea
the cobb breakwater, first constructed in the 13th century from massive oak beams and boulders, provided essential harbour protection for the development of a thriving trading port
today you will find frequent reminders of lyme’s past: cannons survive from the battles; fossils on show in the museum and on the beaches go back to pre– history, the changing strata of the cliffs are tangible evidence of landslips past and present
traditional wooden fishing boats trip in and out of the harbour all summer, providing pleasure cruises, mackerel and deep sea fishing

the town mill, dating from the 14th century and now a fully restored working watermill which generates it's own electricity, is situated in the heart of lyme regis' old town in addition to the mill, gift shop and cafes there are two art galleries, which house a number of different exhibitions during the year
the golf course at lyme regis must be set in one of the finest locations in all britain, occupying a cliff top site with glorious coastal views.

for foodies — river cottage headquarters have opened about a mile away and the river cottage store and canteen is in axminster

there are regular farmers markets around lyme regis

as you might expect, most of lyme's shops are, just like the people, truly independent, and many are of an artistic nature
visit honiton for antique browsing (and buying), bridport for its regular markets, or further afield the newly opened princesshay in exeter, features a wide range of local and national retailers
garden lovers will not be disappointed, great country houses, national trust properties and wonderful gardens in the area include forde abbey, mapperton, killerton, knightshayes and the sub-tropical gardens at abbotsbury

at the top of the garden is a summer house and halfway up a barbecue lodge
all are available for guest use; there is a nominal charge if you want to use that barbecue lodge for cooking

Having enjoyed a comfortable nights sleep come down to the dining room which has views across the fields to the sea at lyme regis; breakfast is served around a communal table, help yourselves to cereals, juices, pastries, preserves and home made yogurt, followed by your choice of traditional full english cooked breakfast or one of our specials such as kippers, smoked haddock or salmon.
Wherever possible we try to source seasonal, local and humanely produced food, where this is not possible for example citrus and tropical fruits, tea, coffee, chocolate and sugar we try to use responsible suppliers


There are numerous eateries in and around lyme regis, many are committed to offering dishes made from local seasonal produce these include river cottage headquarters about a mile away, and the river cottage store and canteen in axminster; mark hix former Chef-Director of Caprice Holdings Limited, including the Ivy has opened an oyster bar and fish restaurant in lyme regis, set in the gardens overlooking lyme bay
